Labour vote through Harlow council tax rise of 9p per week
Residents in council tax band C properties will see 9p added onto their weekly bills from April after Harlow Council approved a proposed rise.
As was expected, the ruling Labour group of the authority passed through their budget and voted down an alternative put forward by the Conservative opposition at a meeting tonight.
Labour members stated the rise was needed to protect town services such as Pets’ Corner, Harlow Playhouse and paddling pools in the Town Park whilst also funding the town’s 70th birthday celebrations.
Mike Danvers, portfolio holder for resources, said: “Since 2010 local government has been under attack (from the Conservative government).”
